PINOT NOIR NEW ZEALAND 2010
A CELEBRATION to be held on Wellington's waterfront early next year, Pinot Noir New Zealand 2010 has attracted over 100 wineries, principally from Central Otago (35), Marlborough (34) and Wairarapa (18). The event, from February 1-4, offers "wine tasting, challenging discussion,
fine cuisine and outright Kiwi entertainment," says chairman Alistair Maling, group winemaker for Villa Maria. "The focus will be on the regionality and ageability of New Zealand pinots, sustainability from vine to bottle, and New Zealand's brand positioning in the international marketplace."
More than 50 pinot noirs from the frost-affected, exceptionally low-cropping 2003 vintage will be available for tasting. Other syrah and aromatic white wine symposia will also be held in Hawke's Bay and Nelson, before and after the Wellington event. To register: www.pinotnoir2010.co.nz
