Voyager Estate 2007 Girt By Sea Cabernet Merlot

Voyager Estate is pleased to release the 2007 ‘Girt by Sea’ Cabernet Merlot.

This is the fourth release of this wine which was brought into the fold to provide a gateway to quality Cabernet Merlot from Margaret River.

Senior Winemaker Cliff Royle says, “We set out to make a wine with all the classic hallmarks of Margaret River Cabernet Merlot blends but wanted to ensure the wine was approachable in its youth and had a bit more generosity on the mid palate. I’m pretty pleased with how the wine has evolved in the last few vintages and think the 2007 is our best ‘Girt’ yet.”

The early, warm and dry season experienced in 2007 was outstanding for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot which are predominantly used in this blend. The fruit is mainly sourced from Voyager Estate’s “North Block” vineyards, which are up to fifteen years old. The early ripening season produced rich, ripe and fleshy wines with great concentration of red and black berry fruits with soft, fine tannins.

The vintage has produced an exceptional ‘Girt by Sea’ with the hallmarks being the generosity of fruit flavour combined with the lovely, soft tannins making the wine very approachable early yet still with good ageing potential.

The nose displays juicy, dark fruits and cassis with a hint of dusty oak, dark chocolate and classic Margaret River savoury spice. The palate shows fresh Cabernet fruit, showing the full array of dark berries and briary chocolate notes. Fine, earthy tannins taper to a well–structured and clean finish.
