Winter Harvest at the NAB Barossa Gourmet Weekend 2009 ....Warm Your Senses

The much anticipated event on the regional winter calendar – The NAB Barossa Gourmet Weekend - kicks off again on 22 and 23 August in the heart of Australia’s premier wine region. With the NAB getting behind the event, winery participants are gearing up for another successful weekend.

Jacqui Colwell, State Manager SA & NT said NAB is extremely proud to be the Naming Rights Sponsor of the Barossa Gourmet Weekend.

“This is such an outstanding event enjoyed by so many South Australians and interstate visitors and we are excited to be involved again in 2009,” Jacqui said. “The NAB Barossa Gourmet Weekend provides us with an exciting opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the SA community.”

With the well-loved concept of wineries showcasing their best drops, this year the delicious food matching will focus on the use of produce from the rich bounty of Barossa’s food culture – a winter harvest. With 23 wineries geared to provide a warming and inviting experience in the dead of winter, the culinary theme is sure to raise the bar for creativity.

“Newcomers to the block, Sieber Wines are growing their own sheep and vegetables for the event,” said Mel Maschio, Chair for the Barossa Gourmet Committee, “and Moorooroo Park Vineyards are making traditional German sausages and launching their new Moscato.”

Rolf Binder Wines have an evening function where you can dance till the wee hours and event veterans Whistler Wines will have their own kids line up and menu along with their renowned regional food, toe tapping jazz followed by good ol’ rock and roll.

A Barossan breakfast burger at Gomersal, Latino dance and food at the exotic Villa Tinto and Chad Romero firing up at Schild Estate in the south, there is the choice to flit around or settle in for the day.

Even with the provision of a designated driver program and popular shuttle bus, it’s a great excuse to get together a group of family or friends and check in to one of the many cosy b&b’s or the myriad of hotel, motel and resort accommodation in the Barossa – there is something for all budgets.

As in previous years, great live music and entertainment of all genres will be the backdrop to the fabulous weekend and many wineries will provide child friendly activities. The event will also once again support the Heart Foundation’s Go Red for Women campaign which highlights the commonly overlooked plight of heart disease in females.

So, rug up and head to the Barossa this August, where your whole family will warm their senses with great wine, food, music and that famous Barossa hospitality.
